A client who earns $24,000 annually but is uninsured experienced a health setback that caused her to miss work and pay out-of-pocket medical expenses.

Upon returning to work, her car broke down and repairs resulted in the equivalent of one month’s rent. Already facing paycheck-to-paycheck stress and instability, her budget couldn’t hold up with these unexpected bills. ECHO’s rent assistance provided a cushion for May’s rent while the client saved up to pay for June obligations, and eviction was prevented. Client is again working full-time and anticipates a raise that will allow extra income to cover health insurance. And the client has applied for ECHO’s Getting Ahead in the Workplace class that is scheduled to begin in August 2020.
