Power of the Purse
POWER of the PURSE (POP) provides a collaborative forum for women of all ages who want to significantly improve the quality of life in the Big Bend through leadership giving, advocacy and volunteering. It’s about joining with like-minded women to be a strong voice and make a difference in meeting needs in the community.
In the 2010-11 campaign, 554 women demonstrated their “power of the purse” as members of this local outreach effort by raising $901,651. POP members donate $1,000 or more annually to UWBB or donate a joint-spouse gift of $2,000 or more. Members also get involved through volunteering to represent the true spirit of neighbors helping neighbors.
Throughout the year, POP holds activities that provide opportunities to meet other women, network with local leaders, learn about our community’s needs, and participate in community-related projects. The POP annual kickoff is held in late summer or early fall.
POP encourages and invites women from all walks of life to invest their time, talents and treasures to create positive, lasting change in our community.
